Biography

Majid Barzegar (b. 1973) is a prominent Iranian filmmaker, recognized for his significant contributions to the development and production of numerous independent short and feature films. His works have been widely acclaimed and featured at renowned international film festivals such as Berlinale, San Sebastian, Rotterdam, São Paulo, and Thessaloniki.

Career
Barzegar made his feature debut with Rainy Seasons in 2010, which received the Jury’s Special Mention Award at the 34th São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil. His second feature film, Parviz (2012), garnered several awards, including the Jury’s Special Mention Award at the 2012 San Sebastian International Film Festival and the NETPAC Award at the 2012 Asiatica Film Mediale in Rome, Italy.

In 2015, Barzegar released his third feature film, A Very Ordinary Citizen, which premiered at the Chicago International Film Festival and won the Sepanta Award for Best Feature Film at the Iranian Film Festival in San Francisco. His fourth feature film, The Rain Falls Where It Will (2020), premiered at the 50th edition of the Rotterdam International Film Festival.

Recognition and Contributions
A multi-talented artist, Barzegar is also a writer, director, producer, and photographer. He has been invited three times to the official selection of the Berlin International Film Festival as a producer within the last five years, with his most recent attendance being for Leakage in 2019. Additionally, he participated in the Cinefondation section of the Cannes Film Festival as a producer in 2018 with Like a Good Kid.

Among the notable films he has produced, A Minor Leap Down (2015) won the FIPRESCI Prize in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival. Mamiroo (2015) received the FIPRESCI Prize at the 20th Busan International Film Festival. Valderrama (2016) was nominated for Best Feature Debut at the Berlin International Film Festival.
