Raft Films is thrilled to share that “Homa”, the critically acclaimed documentary directed by Gelareh Abbasi, has been officially selected to participate in The International Festival For Human Rights Films–Karama Tunisia. Organized by the ACTIF Association, the 9th edition of the festival will take place from November 27 to 30, 2024, and will feature a range of documentaries, narratives, and short films from around the world that highlight pressing human rights issues.

The festival, known for its focus on promoting human rights through the art of cinema, has selected “Homa” in line with its theme for this year: “Woman, Peace, and Mobility”. The documentary’s narrative, which follows the inspiring journey of Homa Homavandi, a blind addiction counselor committed to helping her community, is a powerful example of women’s resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Produced by Dorsa Shafiee and distributed by Raft Films, “Homa” tells the story of Homa Homavandi’s work at an addiction treatment center, where she supports individuals battling substance abuse. Her dedication, combined with the unique challenges she faces due to her disability, highlights the intersection of health, disability rights, and social justice.

The documentary also explores her adventurous marriage to her husband Reza, shedding light on their shared belief that love and companionship can thrive beyond conventional boundaries. “Homa” has already garnered international acclaim, having won the Best Director Documentary Short Award at the World Film Festival in Cannes and a Diploma of Honor at the FicFusa Festival in Colombia.
