Biography
Marjan Nemat Tavousi, born in 1982 in Iran, began her creative journey as a writer before transitioning into filmmaking. Her academic background includes a bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts (Playwriting) from the Art University of Tehran and a diploma in film production from the Toronto Film School.
Marjan’s career began with the publication of a novel, but her passion for visual storytelling soon led her to direct and produce numerous short fiction films and documentaries in both Farsi and English. Renowned for her ability to seamlessly weave narrative and visual artistry, she focuses on themes of identity, culture, and personal experiences, often reflecting the complex realities of modern life.
Her second Farsi-language short film, White Scratch, showcases her unique approach to psychological drama. The film addresses societal and familial pressures faced by young women, capturing both personal and universal struggles. Marjan’s commitment to authenticity and creativity is evident in her ability to write, direct, and edit her own projects, establishing her as a versatile and innovative filmmaker.
